Every once in a while I like to do an insanely detailed painting just to see how far I can push it. I've been working on this one since the 90s and it still isn't done. I'm a great lover of religious art and this image was initially inspired by Spanish Colonial paintings of the Virgin Mary. It's become a kind of altar piece to the Divine Feminine in our home, integrating many different symbols from traditions around the world.
