Second Mondays: Rio Rancho Art Association monthly membership meeting. 6:30-8:30 p.m. RRAA’s mission is to enrich cultural and educational opportunities in the community and surrounding areas by providing events for the public to collectively participate in fine art events and programs. The public is welcome to attend the meetings, which are free of charge. Held at Soul Rio in Rio Rancho.

Tuesdays: Haven House Domestic Violence Support Group for women whose lives have been touched by domestic violence. Topics include: Dynamics of Domestic Violence, Safety Plans, Developing Healthy Relationships, and information about available services. First Tuesdays: Albuquerque Newcomers Club Welcoming Coffee. Learn of the Club’s many varied activities. Membership open to residents who have lived in the Albuquerque area for five years or less, or who are having major changes in their lives. Second Tuesdays: Sandoval County Democratic Club meets at 7 p.m., Rio Rancho Inn, 528 near Sara Road, west side of the road. Meetings are open to the public and feature candidates for local, state, national offices. www.sandovaldemocrats.org.

Third Tuesdays: Eastern Sandoval County Arroyo Flood Control Authority (ESCAFCA) meets at 6 p.m. in the Town of Bernalillo Council Chambers. Wednesdays: Southwest Homeowner Gardening Classes. 10-10:30 a.m. Topics include: fruit trees, soil composting, small fruits and berries, principles of Xeriscape, vegetable gardening, vermicomposting, trees, shrubs, vines for the southwest and herbs. Taught by veteran Master Gardeners. The cost is $15 per person or $5 per couple if pre-registered or $5 per class payable at the door. Call the Extension Office to register at 867-2582. Second Wednesdays: Casa Rosa Mobile Food Pantry distribution. 10 a.m.-12 p.m., fellowship hall of Las Placitas Presbyterian Church, 7 Paseo de San Antonio, Placitas.  A Roadrunner truck will bring 2,500 pounds of food, approximately 50 pounds of food per family. All eligible Placitas residents welcome.

Third Wednesdays: Placitas Community Library Board Meetings. 7-9 p.m. at the Library.

Thursdays: Award-Winning Beading Class of the Placitas Community Center. 1-4 p.m. The Beading Group at the Placitas Community Center includes beginners, advanced, and senior beaders. They enjoy working on their own personal creations as well as instructed techniques and styles. All beaders bring in their personal beads and supplies and work at their own pace. Ideas are shared amongst each other and all have a great time. Both men and women are involved in this activity. All are welcome to attend the class.

Second Thursday: The Democratic Party of Sandoval County meets with the New Mexico Democratic Club. 7 p.m. Meetings to be held at the Bernalillo Train Station, 400 Station, Bernalillo, New Mexico.

First Friday: Coronado Kennel Club Meeting. All-breed obedience kennel club, 7 p.m. Call for meeting place. 867-4510.

Saturdays: Casa Rosa Food Bank is open 9 a.m.-11 a.m. in the pink house east of Las Placitas Presbyterian Church on Highway 165, six miles east of I-25. This community outreach program provides nonperishable food items as well as dairy, frozen meats, and fresh produce as available for Placitas residents in need. Donations and volunteers welcome.

Fourth Saturdays: Sandia Vista Amateur Radio Club invites all area amateur radio operators to monthly meetings. 9 a.m. Do you want to help provide emergency communications in Placitas? Through April 28: New Mexico Showcase, a juried exhibition of eighty established and emerging New Mexico artists, includes the work of three Placitas artists: A mixed-media piece, by Jennifer Vasher; a digital ink print, by Margi Weir; and a mixed-media mosaic, by Laura Robbins. April 3: Albuquerque Newcomers’ Club. Welcome Coffee. Learn of the Clubs’ varied activities. April 3: Gardening with the Masters—growing grapes. 7-8:30 p.m. Rex Franklin, Sandoval County Veteran Master Gardener, will teach attendees how to grow grapes. April 6:  “Bone” making project for the One Million Bones Project (OMB) in association with the Placitas Holocaust Remembrance and Genocide Awareness Group. 12-4 p.m. To be held at the Placitas Community Library. Refreshments will be provided.

April 7-30: Johnson Gallery “Thank You Show.” Works by twenty artists who have supported the gallery in recent years. Reception on April 7 from 3-5 p.m. The gallery is located at 2843 Highway 14 N in Madrid, 87010 on the Turquoise Trail. For information call 505-471-1054.

April 12: Corrales Historical Society “Speaker Series 2012.” 7 p.m. Former US Senate staff member Karl Braithwaite presents: “New Mexico’s Representation in the US Senate Over the Last Forty Years.” Old San Ysidro Church @ 966 Old Church Road, across from Casa San Ysidro. Event is free and open to the public. No reservations required.

April 15: Joann Mazzio speaks about her challenging research of the last few years into the history of the Kuaua Pueblo. 2 p.m. Joann Mazzio is a young adult and children’s author. To be held at the Coronado State Monument. Admission is $5.00. Students and Friends of Coronado State Monument are free.

April 20: Town of Bernalillo celebrates Earth Day with public events. Earthen architecture and adobe workshops at YCC construction sites from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. See article, this Signpost, for further details.

April 21: The Placitas Holocaust Remembrance and Genocide Awareness Group holds third annual event. 2 p.m. The event will include a film clip about the Holocaust and genocide around the world and a candle lighting ceremony honoring those who have died as a result of genocide. To be held at the Placitas Community Library.

April 21: Adobe wall construction and adobe plastering demonstration. 10-4 p.m. In honor of Earth Day, Coronado State Monument Rangers, aided by the Youth Conservation Corps team from Bernalillo will give a demonstration. To be held at the Coronado State Monument. Admission is $3.00.

April 21: Guided hike to the top of the Crest of Montezuma. Meet at the Placitas Post Office at 8:30 a.m. This three to four mile hike is strenuous and involves bushwhacking and steep ground. Walking sticks, sturdy shoes, sun hats, snacks, and water are recommended.

April 22: Placitas Elementary School reunion for high school graduating class of 2012. 2-5 p.m. A potluck BBQ, held at Placitas Elementary School, will celebrate this milestone. For more info, or if you wish to help, email Pam or Peter Colton at placitaspete@earthlink.net.

April 25: Placitas Recycling Association Board of Directors Quarterly Meeting, 7:00 p.m., La Puerta Realty office, 01 Ridge Court, Placitas. 867-3388.

April 26: Sandoval County Historical Society, a special extra ordinary meeting. 2 p.m. To share the history of Santuario De San Lorenzo. To be held at Santuario De San Lorenzo, 301 Camino Del Pueblo, Bernalillo, NM 87004 (next to Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church).

April 28: Sandoval County CASA second annual “Walk for the Kids.” 10 a.m. Meet at the southernmost parking lot of Intel—look for the large mobile billboard.
