Small acts of kindness

—Signpost Staff

Hunger is a silent and invisible issue, and it exists in the Placitas community, as well. Each week, Casa Rosa Food Pantry in Placitas helps feed and clothe more than fifty families. The volunteers distribute food, clothing, and housewares every Saturday morning to Placitas residents in need.

Casa Rosa is an all-volunteer, community supported nonprofit 501(c)(3) with a very simple mission: to provide adequate food and support for those in need within the Placitas community.

After touring the Casa Rosa facility and speaking with Ruth Wheeler, a Casa Rosa board member, the owner of Tribal Bear Designs and jewelry designer Geri Verble has chosen to support Casa Rosa by donating 25 percent of her sale proceeds from the upcoming 2014 Annual Placitas Studio Tour on May 10 and 11. She will also be collecting monetary donations at her studio as well.

Verble said, “Maybe this will give others the idea to do the same. Sometimes small random acts of kindness really can make the world a better place.”

Crest of Montezuma from Placitas

Crest of Montezuma Hike

—Las Placitas Association

Join the Las Placitas Association on April 26 for a hike up onto the Crest of Montezuma in Placitas. Many see Montezuma Crest every day; this is a great opportunity to see the view from the top. We would classify this hike as “strenuous,” since it does involve off-trail walking on somewhat steep ground, but it isn’t very long. A walking stick might be useful. Wear sturdy shoes, a sun hat, and bring snacks and extra water. Those interested should meet at 9:00 a.m. at the Placitas Post Office and plan to be out until around noon. We will carpool to the site.
