Celebrate reading with professional storyteller and puppeteer at Placitas Community Library
—Nancy Guist, Children’s Services Coordinator
Come join us at Placitas Community Library for our Summer Reading Celebration, our final summer reading program, on Thursday, August 6 from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. The highlight of this event will be “Storytelling For All Seasons” presented by Brenda Hollingsworth-Marley. Ms. Marley’s stories are known to delight listeners of all ages—from one to one hundred! Her stories come from around the world. She incorporates puppets, singing, and drumming into the telling of her tales. Ms. Marley is a member of the Storytellers of New Mexico and has shared her stories with thousands of youth all over the state at such venues as the New Mexico State Fair, the Albuquerque Folk Festival, and the Taos Storytelling Festival. Her performance at the Placitas Library has been made possible through funding provided by the New Mexico Humanities Council.
Our Summer Reading Celebration will also be an opportunity to recognize all youth who have participated in our Summer Reading Challenge. Bags of prizes and books will be awarded to all participants. We encourage all young people who are participating in the Summer Reading Challenge to turn in their reading logs by August 4. To round out our celebration, there will be cake and lemonade for all.
As the library’s Summer Reading Program comes to an end, we wish to thank the Jardineros de Placitas for their financial support of the summer program. Their support for numerous community organizations has made a difference to so many. |
