Congratulations to our local Coronado Minor Little League girls who took the softball championship for District 8 and advanced to the state tournament. There they faced Espanola from District 1 and took a tough loss of 7 to 8. They played again at Thunderbird in hopes of climbing back up in the bracket. In the end, they won fourth in the state for girls minor division.

Summer wraps up with awards and art

“After a summer of achievement and fun, we resume our fall activities, showing off the boys’ art projects,” reports Pack 708’s Cub Master David Gardner.

Cub Scouts will present everything from paintings to birdhouses as part of their arts and crafts display at the Sandoval County Fair in Cuba, from July 31 to August 4.

Summer has gone by quickly with swimming, hiking, and camping outings. July started with bicycling in the Independence Day parade, and ended with hiking and swimming, and awards distributed at the Downings.

“We had about thirty awards to hand out,” said Mr. Gardner. “Isaac got his Bobcat badge, and he and Loren received belt loops. Carmello and Angel passed off their swimming belt loops, and all the boys present passed the hiking belt loop.”

During autumn, the cub scouts will be selling batteries and popcorn as fundraisers. Please help them raise the money for more fun and good works in the community.

During the summer, Pack 708 continues its Tuesday meetings and monthly planning meetings at Carroll Elementary School. For further information, contact Tori Tafoya at 414-1885, or Snow Watson at 867-2047, liaison between Pack 708 and the Coronado Optimist Club, the Cub Scouts’ sponsoring organization.
