Second Mondays: Rio Grande Rebels 4-H Club meets. Now accepting new members. The 4-H youth development program is a dynamic non-formal education program that provides opportunities for youth to learn life skills and gain knowledge while having fun. Tuesdays: Pickleball at the Bernalillo Community Center. 6-8 p.m. Pickleball is a game played on a court with paddles and a whiffle ball. The court is smaller than a tennis court and allows people to play who no longer want to run and jump as they did in their younger years. Anyone can play even if they have never played tennis. First Tuesdays: Albuquerque Newcomers Club Welcoming Coffee. 10 a.m. Learn of the Club’s many varied activities. Membership open to residents who have lived in the Albuquerque area (including Sandoval County) for five years or less, or who are having major changes in their lives. Tuesdays: Haven House Domestic Violence Support Group for women whose lives have been touched by domestic violence. 6:30-8:00 p.m. Topics include: Dynamics of Domestic Violence, Safety Plans, Developing Healthy Relationships, and information about available services. First Wednesdays: Free civil legal clinic offered. 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Held in the third-floor conference room of the Second District Courthouse, at the southwest corner of Lomas and Fourth, NW. Free legal advice on a number of civil legal issues. No family law services will be offered. Attendance is limited to the first 25 persons who qualify for low-income assistance. Interpreters and bilingual attorneys will be on hand. Those who come to the clinic should bring all their paperwork with them. They can expect about a thirty-minute, free legal consultation. Fourth Thursdays: Sandoval County Development Planning & Zoning Commission. 6 p.m. Held at the Sandoval County Administration Building, 1500 Idalia Rd., Bldg. D, Bernalillo.

Fridays: Sandoval County Stroke Support Group. 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Provides weekly support to survivors of stroke, their caregivers, adult family members, and health care providers. Saturdays: Casa Rosa Food Bank. Open 9-11 a.m. Held in the pink house east of Las Placitas Presbyterian Church at 640 Highway 165, six miles east of I-25. Community outreach program provides nonperishable food items as well as dairy, frozen meats, and fresh produce as available for Placitas residents in need. Donations, volunteers welcome.

August 3: Jardineros de Placitas monthly meeting. 9:30 a.m. To feature a presentation by members of the Placitas Artist Series entitled “Listen to the Sound of Music.” Jardineros de Placitas is a social, benevolent, and charitable community-based organization for residents of Placitas. In addition to monthly meetings, members participate in a variety of community service projects and small interest groups. August 13: Native plant hike with Michael Crofoot, plant expert. Meet at 8:45 at the western Open Space Gate (Access to the gate is found by taking Camino de Las Huertas road to Llano del Norte. Take Llano del Norte to the left and follow it until it turns west at Toad Road. Stay on Llano Del Norte until it dead-ends at the Open Space west gate. There will be signs marking the route.) August 14: PAS concert fundraiser featuring internationally acclaimed, Grammy-winning conductor Leonard Slatkin and award-winning American composer Cindy McTee. 3-5 p.m. concert; 5-7 p.m. private reception. Held at Las Placitas Presbyterian Church. Tickets are fifty dollars for the concert; $75 for following reception. August 27: KUPR Fundraiser Benefit Concert. 7:00 p.m. At Las Placitas Presbyterian Church, the world-famous Rahim Alhaj Trio will perform. These artists are world famous and considered, by many, to be the best in their musical fields, especially with their unique instruments. Ticket prices will be twenty dollars. Of that, $15 will go to KUPR’s general operating fund and concert expenses and five dollars will donated to benefit Direct Aid Iraq.

September 2-4: Four Corners Folk Festival in Pagosa Springs, Colorado. Music, arts, food, entertainment, camping. Info: folkwest.com.
