School and Scouts march together

~Suzann Owings

“Our scouts are looking forward to participating in the Sheriff’s Posse Parade mid-month, right after heading back to school,” chuckles Cub Master David Gardner. The scouts did well at the Fourth of July Placitas Parade and hope to win another trophy at the Sheriff’s Posse Parade, says Mr. Gardner.

August is popcorn sales month for the Boy Scouts of America, including the Cub Scouts. Money made from the popcorn sales will pay for scouting fees and allow the boys to attend Boy Scout Day Camp next summer.

The scouts will present a “Show and Sell” display at the Tractor Supply store on Highway 550, from 9:00 until noon on August 19 and August 26. Those interested in purchasing the Cub Scout’s popcorn may contact the Pack’s “Popcorn Kernel” Amanda Griego at 507-1305.

Because the tour was so popular last year, the scouts will take another historic walking tour of the Town of Bernalillo.

Scouts and parents will participate in the Open House nights at Bernalillo, Carroll, and Placitas Elementary Schools to recruit additional scouts and provide families with information.

Pack 708’s meetings are held at the LDS Church Center in Bernalillo, west of I-25’s Exit 240. The weekly meetings occur from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., on Wednesdays. New scout members always are welcome in the Pack and at Pack meetings. Planning meetings with parents are held on the month’s fourth Tuesday.

For further information about the Cub Scouts, contact David Gardner at 867-4689 or Snow Watson, Coronado Optimist Club’s Scout Liaison, at 867-2047.
