El ZÓcalo launches new web site

—Amy Griffin, Economic Development and Tourism Coordinator, Sandoval County

Sandoval County’s meeting-and-event center, “El Zócalo Plaza,” has a new web site.

“To better exhibit the beauty and utility of El Zócalo, we wanted to incorporate more visual representations of the property. We achieved that by making images of the property the foundation of the site’s design,” says Donna Wylie, director of the Sandoval County Economic Development and Tourism Department, which operates El Zócalo Plaza.

“The copy supporting all of the site’s images conforms to a keyword strategy that will make the site more visible to search engines, thus enhancing its value as a marketing tool for the property,” Wylie added.

The historic El Zócalo Plaza, built as a convent in 1874, was a place people in Bernalillo came to meet, learn, and exchange ideas. Today, the completely refurbished center continues to serve as a meeting place—hosting weddings, business conferences, and numerous other events.

The plaza also houses the Sandoval County Visitors’ Center, where visitors from around the world routinely stop in for information about and directions to major attractions throughout the county.

A separate two-story building on the El Zócalo grounds is a small-business incubation center, with tenants including the Greater Sandoval County Chamber of Commerce, the Sandoval County Small Business Development Center, and several growing, independent businesses.

“The new web site has an image gallery that’s extremely easy to navigate, allowing people to get a real feel for what it would be like to have an event at El Zócalo,” Wylie says.
