Second Mondays: Rio Rancho Art Association monthly membership meeting. 6:30-8:30 p.m. RRAA’s mission is to enrich cultural and educational opportunities in the community and surrounding areas by providing events for the public to collectively participate in fine art events and programs. The public is welcome to attend the meetings, which are free of charge. Held at Soul Rio in Rio Rancho.

Tuesdays: Haven House Domestic Violence Support Group for women whose lives have been touched by domestic violence. Topics include: Dynamics of Domestic Violence, Safety Plans, Developing Healthy Relationships, and information about available services. First Tuesdays: Albuquerque Newcomers Club Welcoming Coffee. Learn of the Club’s many varied activities. Membership open to residents who have lived in the Albuquerque area for five years or less, or who are having major changes in their lives. Third Tuesdays: Eastern Sandoval County Arroyo Flood Control Authority (ESCAFCA) meets at 6 p.m. in the Town of Bernalillo Council Chambers. Tuesdays and Fridays: Watermelon Mountain Ranch offers spay-and-neuter clinics. 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Prices vary from thirty dollars to 150 dollars depending on the weight of your pet. Second Wednesdays: Casa Rosa Mobile Food Pantry distribution. 10 a.m.-12 p.m., fellowship hall of Las Placitas Presbyterian Church, 7 Paseo de San Antonio, Placitas.  A Roadrunner truck will bring 2,500 pounds of food, approximately 50 pounds of food per family. All eligible Placitas residents welcome.

Saturdays: Casa Rosa Food Bank is open 9 a.m.-11 a.m. in the pink house east of Las Placitas Presbyterian Church on Highway 165, six miles east of I-25. This community outreach program provides nonperishable food items as well as dairy, frozen meats, and fresh produce as available for Placitas residents in need. Donations and volunteers welcome.

December 1: Opening reception for Annual New Mexico Photographic Art Show. 2-4 p.m. Photographers from New Mexico will display and sell their images in a premier gallery setting. Held in the Fine Arts building at Expo New Mexico.

December 1: Basic Home Composting Class. 10 a.m.-12 p.m. An overview of the art, science, materials, methods and benefits of home composting. December 1 and 9: Holiday wearable art show and sale. 1-4 p.m. Seven Placitas artists, specializing in wearable art, have been asked to share their work. December 2: —“Christmas at Kuaua.” 5-8 p.m. The Monument Rangers and Friend of Coronado Monument proudly announce their annual Christmas Celebration at the Monument. Hot chocolate, cider, and cookies will be provided, along with familiar carols, and a visit from St. Nick. Beautiful luminarias and gaily-decorated trees will lift your spirits to the beat of Native drummers and storytellers around a roaring bon-fire. Held at Coronado Monument, located off Highway 550, 1.5 miles west of the I-25 exit 242.

December 16: The Placitas Artist Series hosts reception for artists Peter Boehringer, Fine Art Prints; Katherine Irish Henry, Pastels; Dianna Shomaker, Mixed Media; and Vicki Bolen, Paper Arts. 2 p.m. Held at Las Placitas Presbyterian Church (located at NM 165, six miles east of I-25 (exit 242)). The artwork of the artists will be on display from December 1 through December 28.

December 16: Placitas Artist Series presents Polyphony: Voices of New MexicoMaxine Thevenot. 3 p.m. Held at Las Placitas Presbyterian Church located on NM 165 six miles east of I-25 (exit 242). Tickets for the concert will be available at the door one hour before the concert or may be purchased in advance at The Merc Grocery Store in Homestead Village Shopping Center in Placitas, Under Charlie’s Covers Fine Used Book Store at 120 E. December 21: Winter solstice poetry reading—Creatures of the Long Night.7 p.m. Ten to 12 poets will read a poem to the light of a single candle in the darkened sanctuary with a minute or so of silence between each reading.
