Treasurer offers options for paying property taxes

December 10 is the deadline for making the first payment on 2013 property taxes, and the Sandoval County Treasurer’s Office is offering numerous options for property owners to settle their accounts.

Starting November 12, 2013, the Treasurer’s Office will have extended office hours for property owners wishing to pay in person. Staff will be at the windows on the first floor of the County Administration Building, 1500 Idalia Road, in Bernalillo, from 7:30 a.m. to 5:15 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Taxpayers who can’t make it to county building during those hours can leave payments in a drop box that will be accessible 24 hours a day on the north side of the building. Drop boxes are also located at the two New Mexico Bank and Trust locations in Rio Rancho. Those locations are 4001 Southern Boulevard SE and 7830 Enchanted Hill Boulevard NE.

If none of these options are convenient, taxpayers can submit payments by phone or on the treasurer’s website. Information on how to exercise those options can be found here.

“We’re trying to make it as easy as possible for taxpayers to make payments,” said Sandoval County Treasurer Laura Montoya.

While the December 10 deadline is for paying the first half of 2013 taxes without penalty, the Treasurer’s Office is accepting payments on past due accounts. “We would like to remind everyone that we now can accept partial payments on delinquent accounts to help taxpayers become current,” Treasurer Montoya said.
