Earth and Sky

One of my interests is to capture outdoor scenes which harken back to the
rural past of Hispanic New Mexico. This landscape painting is of a northern
New Mexico rancho, with the Sangre de Cristo mountains in the distance.
The women are preparing the horno (earthen oven) to bake bread.
The old woman takes a bit of straw to test the heat of the horno...if it
catches fire when placed near the opening, the horno is ready.
I want the painting to portray a mood of nostalgia.
The villagers live humble lives, nearly overwhelmed by the beauty
and majesty of the landscape.
