Historical portraiture is a favorite theme for me. I painted three pueblo
women using as a source an anonymous nineteenth century photograph
taken at Isleta Pueblo south of Albuquerque.
I wanted to integrate the weaving of the basket and blanket with
the women's jewelry and clothes to show how
completely the women's lives are intertwined with
their culture and environment.
