“Gibson,” the title holder in the Guinness World Record Book for World’s Tallest Dog, was on hand at Petland in Rio Rancho on January 22, to greet admirers and provide paw-tographs.
Gibson is an AKC Pedigreed Harlequin Great Dane and stands 42.6 inches tall, measured from the ground to the top of his shoulders. He has been measured at 7 feet 1 inch all stretched out and standing on his hind legs.
He is currently six years old and weighs-in at a whopping 180 pounds. Besides many daily treats, his diet includes 8-10 cups of dry food and 1-1/2 to 2 pounds of wet food per day.
Gibson is not only a celebrity, but also is a certified Therapy Dog, does wheelchair assistance, and works with at-risk youth even traveling to detention centers and jails.
The record holder was in town helping to promote K9Grass, an artificial grass designed specifically for dogs, and also helping to raise awareness for Watermelon Mountain Ranch, a local no-kill animal shelter.
