Sandoval Commission Meetings
Unless otherwise noted, all Sandoval County commission meetings will be held in the county commission chambers, Sandoval County Courthouse, 711 Camino del Pueblo, Bernalillo, New Mexico.

Placitas Community Library Hours:

Mondays (first Monday of the month):
Rio Rancho Art Association member meeting. Destiny Center, 4401 Northern Boulevard in Rio Rancho. Meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. with a short business meeting followed by a special program including speakers, demonstrations, or other events of interest to artists and art lovers. Each meeting has a social hour following the speaker, including samples of art by members. Meetings are open to the public regardless of artistic experience and media. All are encouraged to join. This is a great opportunity to meet fellow artists, network, make friends, and develop your skills.

Third Tuesdays: RESOLVE, Central New Mexico, Meeting. RESOLVE provides information and support for those dealing with infertility, pregnancy loss, high-risk pregnancy, making the decision to adopt or life without children. First Wednesdays: The Sandoval County Chapter of the Holistic Moms Network meets at the Placitas Community Center to provide support and education on various natural living and conscious parenting topics. 6 p.m. Weekly playgroups, book exchanges, and an online forum for parenting support. The Holistic Moms Network is a nonprofit support and discussion network for moms with an interest in natural, holistic, and alternative parenting and living. Thursdays: Depression and bipolar support group meetings. DBSA Albuquerque offers weekly support-group meetings for those suffering from mood disorders. Second Thursdays: Do you want to learn more about politics? The League of Women Voters–Albuquerque, a nonpartisan organization, meets the second Thursday of each month. The luncheon meeting is at the Wyndham Hotel, 2910 Yale Blvd SE, near the airport. The LWV encourages informed and active participation to influence public policy through education and advocacy. Friday Evenings: The Albuquerque Astronomical Society and the University of New Mexico Physics and Astronomy Department host observing sessions during the 2009 fall semester at the Campus Observatory. Saturdays: Casa Rosa Food Bank is open 9 a.m.-noon in the pink house east of Las Placitas Presbyterian Church on Highway 165, six miles east of I-25. This community outreach program provides nonperishable food items as well as dairy, frozen meats, and fresh produce as available for Placitas residents in need. Donations and volunteers welcome.

February 1: The Rio Rancho Art Association (RRAA) will hold its monthly meeting at 6:30 p.m. at the Destiny Center at 4401 Northern Boulevard in Rio Rancho. The first half hour will consist of business topics and announcements, followed by a pastel demonstration given by Cecilia McRoberts. Cecilia will be showing different pastel techniques, as well as displaying an assortment of pastels, papers, and other materials. This demo will be interactive and tactile, so if you always wanted to try pastels, this is your chance! February 6: Under Charlie’s Covers fine used book store is hosting a book-signing with mystery author J.P. Hudson from 10 a.m.-noon. Hudson will be signing A Senior’s Moment: A Balloon Mystery in New Mexico.

February 9: Sandoval County Lodger’s Tax Advisory Board, 4 p.m., County Tourism Offices, 264 South Camino del Pueblo, Bernalillo.

February 11: Casa Rosa Mobile Food Pantry, Fellowship Hall of Las Placitas Presbyterian Church, distribution from 2-4 p.m. The Roadrunner truck will deliver 2,500 pounds of food, which means approximately fifty pounds of food per family. Food may include cereals, crackers, canned fruit, peanut butter, beans, canned meat, frozen meat, breads, bottled water, and fresh produce, as available. All eligible Sandoval County residents welcome!

February 11: Luncheon meeting of the League of Women Voters of Central New Mexico, Inc. at 11:45 a.m. at the Albuquerque Grand Airport Hotel at 2910 Yale SE in Albuquerque. There will be a presentation of the history of the local League. Sarah Cady Sarotoris, a direct descendant of Elizabeth Cady Stanton (a founder of the League of Women Voters in 1920) will be also speaking. The deadline for reservations is Monday, February 8. February 17: The Sandoval County/Westside League of Women Voters meeting at noon at the Corrales Community Building, 4324 Corrales Road in Corrales will feature a presentation of the history of the local League. The meeting is free and everyone is welcome.

February 20: Under Charlie’s Covers fine used book store will host Reverend Jim Thompson, author of The Physics of Genesis, at a book signing from 10 a.m.-noon. The Physics of Genesis is a fresh interpretation of the Bible and the origins of life and the universe, demonstrating a deep connection between Pythagorean mysticism and Genesis.
