Responding to your emergencies

—Sal Gullo, District Chief

We would like to wish our community a happy and healthy New Year.

The Sandoval County Fire Department District 4 responds to your emergencies here in Placitas. We receive assistance from the SCFD Medic 43 Unit and the two paid staff that are dispatched from Bernalillo and are available 24/7/365.

At District 4’s business meeting in December, we held our election of chief officers and we are proud to share with you the names of those who will fill the positions for a two-year term starting January 1, 2010. Stephen Snider will be our District 4 Assistant Chief EMS, Humberto Macias will be District 4 Assistant Chief Fire, and Sal Gullo will be the District 4 Chief.

The time required to perform these duties as volunteers should not go unrecognized. If you have the chance to thank these members or any of the other thirty-five members of our volunteer fire department, please do so. As volunteers, we live on two things that our community can offer: your words of thanks as an expression of gratitude serve to give us strength and your donations bring us the ability to fund training and purchase specialized equipment for the tasks at hand.

If you are interested in donating to our fire department, you can call our non-emergency number at 867-5080 and leave us a message. You may also send your donation to our not-for-profit organization: PVFB, PO Box 567, Placitas, NM 87043.

We do have a website ( you can visit to learn about us as well as any current issues of concern. Thank you in advance for your continued support.
