What’s the word around town?

On June 2, Placitas Appreciation Day drew large crowds to the Homestead
Shopping Center parking lot. So, what do residents appreciate about
Placitas?
• Annie Gross replied, “I appreciate the community
spirit here. It’s terrific the whole town can get together
for a celebration like this. It’s a wonderful community that
we live in here. Not everyone is so fortunate.”
• Pat Waltemath said, “I love the vistas that we have
to look at and the views. I love the community. You just can’t
beat what’s here, and you can’t get that just anywhere.
It’s so beautiful!”
• Laura Robbins, who was running a booth for the Wild Horse
Observers’ Association, had this to say: “The people
who move here are very welcoming, kind, and interesting folks. People
are nice here. There are many creative people, artists, poets, and
creative thinkers in this community, and that’s wonderful.
I appreciate that there is wildlife here, that there is dark at
night, and that there is open space. I like that the neighbors appreciate
each other and that there is community here.”
• Julie Denison, who was managing the recycling booth, said,
“People in Placitas are wonderful. They are a great, diverse
group of people, and it’s wonderful meeting them and learning
all about them and where they came from. People here are very willing
to let you be who you are.”
• Jean Eichberger said, “I appreciate the old-time
attitude in Placitas. It has lots of history. I appreciate the old-timers
and what they have to offer. I enjoy the rural attitude—or
what’s left of it—and the animal-friendly stance that
we have. I value the different ways of living that people enjoy
here and the freedom to be who you are. I like that you can stop
on the road and talk to a friend. Friends you make here are friends
forever.”
