Second Mondays: Rio Rancho Art Association monthly membership meeting. 6:30-8:30 p.m. RRAA’s mission is to enrich cultural and educational opportunities in the community and surrounding areas by providing events for the public to collectively participate in fine art events and programs. The public is welcome to attend the meetings, which are free of charge. Held at Soul Rio in Rio Rancho.

Tuesdays: Haven House Domestic Violence Support Group for women whose lives have been touched by domestic violence. Topics include: Dynamics of Domestic Violence, Safety Plans, Developing Healthy Relationships, and information about available services. First Tuesdays: Albuquerque Newcomers Club Welcoming Coffee. Learn of the Club’s many varied activities. Membership open to residents who have lived in the Albuquerque area for five years or less, or who are having major changes in their lives. Second Tuesdays: Sandoval County Democratic Club meets at 7 p.m., Rio Rancho Inn, 528 near Sara Road, west side of the road. Meetings are open to the public and feature candidates for local, state, national offices.

Third Tuesdays: Eastern Sandoval County Arroyo Flood Control Authority (ESCAFCA) meets at 6 p.m. in the Town of Bernalillo Council Chambers. Board meeting agenda is available at the front desk of the Town Hall by the Friday preceding the meeting.

Fourth Tuesdays: Pathways: Wildlife Corridors of NM monthly meeting. 6:30 p.m. Placitas Community Center. Open to the public.

Wednesdays: Southwest Homeowner Gardening Classes. 10-10:30 a.m. Topics include: fruit trees, soil composting, small fruits and berries, principles of Xeriscape, vegetable gardening, vermicomposting, trees, shrubs, vines for the Southwest and herbs. Taught by veteran Master Gardeners. $15 per person/$5 per couple if pre-registered or $5 per class payable at the door. Call the Extension Office to register at 867-2582. Second Wednesdays: Casa Rosa Mobile Food Pantry distribution. 10 a.m.-12 p.m., fellowship hall of Las Placitas Presbyterian Church, 7 Paseo de San Antonio, Placitas.  A Roadrunner truck will bring 2,500 pounds of food, approximately 50 pounds of food per family. All eligible Placitas residents welcome.

Second Thursday: The Democratic Party of Sandoval County meets with the New Mexico Democratic Club. 7 p.m. Meetings to be held at the Bernalillo Train Station, 400 Station, Bernalillo, New Mexico.

Second and Fourth Thursday of each month (except for November and December) Sandoval County Commission. 6 p.m. Unless otherwise noted, all meetings will be held in the Sandoval Administration Building, 1500 Idalia Road Building D, Bernalillo. Saturdays: Casa Rosa Food Bank is open 9 a.m.-11 a.m. in the pink house east of Las Placitas Presbyterian Church on Highway 165, six miles east of I-25. This community outreach program provides nonperishable food items as well as dairy, frozen meats, and fresh produce as available for Placitas residents in need. Donations and volunteers welcome.

Fourth Saturdays: Sandia Vista Amateur Radio Club invites all area amateur radio operators to monthly meetings. 9 a.m. Do you want to help provide emergency communications in Placitas? Saturdays and Sundays:  Idalia Road Marketplace, Rio Rancho’s  open air market dedicated to local business, art, food and fun. Vendors (artists, craftspeople, organic/natural produce and more), live music, great breakfast burritos. Hours Saturday 9 a.m.-2 p.m., Sunday 10 a.m.-2 p.m. through October. 1320 Idalia Road just North of Northern Blvd.

Sundays through August: Haynes Park Summer Music and Art Series. 6:30-8 p.m. Haynes Park, 2006 Grande Boulevard. July 1 and 2: Coronado State Monument presents Pauline Eisenstadt. Ms Eisenstadt will share her experiences as written in her new memoir: A Woman in Both Houses: My Career in New Mexico Politics. July 4: Town of Bernalillo Fourth of July Celebration. 2 sunset. Water balloon fights, hot dogs, soft drinks, a water slide, water guns, fire trucks.

July 4: Annual Placitas Fourth of July Parade. Parade participants line up in front of Placitas Heights at 10 a.m. Parade starts at 11 a.m. and winds through the Village of Placitas. Spectators welcome to line Highway 165 with chairs and coolers to watch the parade.

July 6: Artist reception for Light, space, and time perspectives  photographers. 5-7 p.m. The artists are Tom Baker, Ruth Bilowus Butler, Joe Cabaza, Fernando Delgado, Joan Fenicle, Marie Maher and Barry McCormick. A portion of sales will be donated to the Placitas non-profit Pathways: Wildlife Corridors of New Mexico. Admission is free and open to the public. July 7 to 8: Grand Opening ceremony and first Health Fair for the University of New Mexico Sandoval Regional Medical Center. Starting at 10 a.m. On both Saturday and Sunday, the hospital’s physicians, directors, and fellow staff members will be hosting a health fair that includes a tour of the various departments within SRMC, demonstrations of the equipment and technology the staff will be utilizing to provide the best patient care available, and will field any questions. 2600 College Blvd NE, Rio Rancho.

July 9: Placitas Federated Republican Women will host Judge Miles Hanisee, incumbent candidate for NM Court of Appeals. 4-6 p.m. at the home of Vickie Kneemeyer, 40 Anasazi Trails Loop, Placitas. The public is welcome to attend. 771-0173.

July 12 to 26: Intel Computer Clubhouse Film Boot Camp. For the third year the Film Boot Camp will be held at the Computer Clubhouse on the grounds of Bernalillo High School. The camp, for ages ten through eighteen, is two weeks of daily work creating story, understanding the various jobs related to filmmaking, story-boarding, filming, acting, and editing. July 13: “Hip Hop in the Park.” 8-10 p.m. To be held at Rotary Park, Bernalillo, underneath the pavilion. Featuring local artists.

July 13: An artist’s reception for Jade Leyva. 5-7 p.m. Jade’s work reflects influences ranging from pre-Colombian to post-modern. It is at times whimsical, celebratory and reflective, yet always thought-provoking and expressive—a visual “magical realism.” To be held at the Placitas Community Library.

July 14 and 28: Placitas Flea Market. 9-4 p.m. To be held at Homestead Village, 221 Highway 165 (next to the Merc). Seller fees start at $10; proceeds benefit the Placitas Community Library. For info, call PJ at 771-1143.

July 14: Gabriel Sahd, Chautauqua actor, recounts adventures of Jose Aaron Librado Gurule. 7 p.m. To be held at the Coronado State Monument on the portal. Admission is free and no reservations are needed. Gate opens at 6:30 p.m.

July 14: “Stampede to Oblivion” presentation. 2 p.m. Eyewitness News 8 reporter KLAS-TV George Knapp will take attendees along as he investigates what is happening to Nevada’s wild horse population. Open discussion led by Betty Pritchard, Board member of WHOA, including all topics relevant to current equine issues in NM after the movie. Refreshments. No charge. July 25: Placitas Recycling Association Quarterly Meeting

July 27, 28, 29: Jemez Mountain Bear Paw Quilt Guild will hold their fourth annual Show of Patriotic Quilts. 9-5 p.m. daily. Held at the Jemez Pueblo Walatowa Visitor Center located in the red rocks area north of Jemez Pueblo on Highway 4. Free.
