Signpost editor receives award
Barbara Belknap has entered the New Mexico Press Women’s Annual Communication Contest three times and won an award every time. This year she placed second in the state for regularly editing a non-daily publication, the Northside Signpost. For the first time, this category included publications of all distribution sizes in New Mexico.
NMPW contest chair Connie Gotsch said, “It’s great work like Barbara’s that makes Press Women go.” The entries were judged by an Ohio firm. Among the comments from the judges was “interesting publication with some fine photography.”
In 1998, she received third place in the state for editing the Signpost and second place for editing Albuquerque Arts magazine. In 2000, she came in first place in the state and went on to place second in the country in the United States Press Women’s Annual Communication Contest for editing a non-daily publication with under 5,000 distribution.
The New Mexico Press Women’s Association supports men and women in journalism, broadcasting, public relations, advertising, photography, graphic arts, and writing throughout New Mexico.
