Book sale at Placitas Community Library during Placitas Appreciation Day

—Anne Frost, Co-Director Placitas Community Library

The Placitas Community Library will host its semi-annual book sale on Saturday, June 6 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., in conjunction with Placitas Appreciation Day. Come early for the best bargains: hardback books for $10, paperbacks for $.50, and mass market books are three for $1. After 1:00 p.m., you can fill a grocery bag for $3. We will also have a selection of children’s toys for sale and children’s books for ten cents each!

This year, we will have cat and kitten adoptions from Watermelon Mountain Ranch. Come to visit and perhaps you will fall in love. Don’t miss the Pet au Paw Pet Parade sponsored by library volunteer and pet sitter extraordinaire Annie Gross. This year, they will gather at the bank for a stroll past the library and over to the Merc for the awards ceremony. Bring your dog, llama, or alpaca and have a blast.

What’s going on at the new building site? Several unanticipated state permitting issues have arisen which have stalled construction of the new library building. Sandoval County is working hard to resolve these as quickly as possible. Hart Construction is ready to go as soon as these issues are cleared up.

Our fifth Birthday Bash was a smash! Despite the gale force winds, we had a marvelous presentation from Stephanie Lockhart and her Spanish colonial horses. These were the horses of the Conquistadors, the Pony Express, the Cavalry, the Indian pony, and the cousins of our own wild horses. They were downright cuddly, beautiful, and wonderfully trained and shown by their advocate, Stephanie. It was well worth braving the wind.

Don’t forget, you can still sign up for the Summer Reading Challenge and enjoy the Summer Reading Program any Thursday from June 4 to August 6 from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
