Second Annual Summer Serenade

—Joan Lucero

The Jardineros de Placitas is pleased to present their Second Annual Summer Serenade, honoring the seniors of Placitas and surrounding communities. This complimentary gift to all seniors will take place on June 29, from 9:30-11 a.m. at the Las Placitas Presbyterian Church. The stage will be shared by several performances, beginning with the New Mexico Honors Jazz Band that most recently played for the Albuquerque Mayors Fundraising Ball. The very accomplished ten-year-old vocalist, Maiya Dominguez, will charm us, singing in both English and Spanish. Kayla Matteucci will perform once again this year, playing one of her personal classical piano selections. A barbershop quartet named the Bloomin’ Idiots has formed, representing a total of 119 years of barbershop membership. Some of their songs will certainly be familiar and delightful. In closing, the barbershop quartet will lead us in a good old sing-along. Complimentary refreshments will be served beginning at 9:15 a.m., prior to the performance. You won’t want to miss this most enjoyable musical presentation. We look forward to your coming—all are welcome.

Let’s get cooking with the Turtle Mountain Brewing Company

The Loma Colorado Main Library will host the first of three “Let’s Get Cooking” programs on Wednesday, June 1, from 6:30–7:30 p.m. The programs will feature Rio Rancho restaurants, giving the restaurants and residents a chance to meet one on one, demonstrate and learn cooking skills, taste fabulous food, and most importantly, have a great time. The July 6 program will feature Lenny’s Sub Shop, and the August 3 program will feature Cazuela’s Mexican Grill.

The June 1 program features Dustin Del Grosso and Jason Horbachefsky of Rio Rancho’s Turtle Mountain Brewing Company preparing a three-course, French Caribbean meal. Come meet the staff, taste samples, and have a great time.

There is no charge to attend, but tickets are required. Tickets are available for the June 1 program at the Loma Colorado adult information desk starting in May.

For more information about the program, please contact Adult Services at (505) 891-5013, ext. 3033.
