c. Lisa Chernoff

Past and present, a retrospective

The work of Lisa Chernoff, featuring some of her first sculptures and progressing to the present, will be on exhibit at the Placitas Community Library for the month of June. She began creating sculpture in 2000 and is excited to exhibit pieces representing her journey through the past 11 years, most of which have never been shown.

As an explorer and experimenter in kiln-fused glass for almost 14 years, Lisa most often gains her inspiration from the nature and landscape around her studio environment. She has lived in Placitas for 20 years and for the past seven years in her newer location on Perdiz Canyon Road. It is surrounded by mountains on three sides, with a wonderful view through the canyon out to the mesas and mountains to the north. The Las Huertas Creek, which is intermittent, runs through the backyard in the spring and summer when there is enough winter snowmelt. This has translated into her work, creating a rhythmic tension between order and chaos, with an emphasis on texture and touchability.

Lisa’s use of intense color combined with textural patterns, dimension, and metal and stone inclusions make her unique sculptures identifiably her own.  Her sculptural technique expresses an organic, flowing, three-dimensional and deeply layered quality that has become her artistic signature.

More of Lisa’s work may be seen at her studio and on her Web site (www.pompousglass.com).

Please join Lisa for an opening reception on Friday, June 10, from 5-8 p.m. This is a free event and is open to the public.
