Las Acequias de Placitas wins again

The twenty-fifth annual technical conference and membership meeting of the New Mexico Rural Water Association concluded on March 28 with an awards banquet recognizing the distinguished service of personnel in New Mexico's small and rural water systems. Las Acequias de Placitas was named Small System of the Year (under five hundred connections). The nomination came from the membership and was voted on by an expert three-member awards committee. Community conversations on regional water planning

The Middle Rio Grande Water assembly will host its sixth in a series of community conversations on regional water planning on May 6 from 6:30 to 9:00 p.m. at Carroll Elementary School in Bernalillo. To encourage public participation in water planning, MRGWA offers an orientation thirty minutes before the regular meeting. For those who have not been involved or who want a refresher course, there will be a review of the information and process that has taken place up to this point.

MRGWA is an all-volunteer grassroots organization formed to develop a regional water plan through an open, inclusive, and participatory process. The assembly is working in partnership with the Mid-Region Council of Governments to carry out this purpose. These conversations also benefit from support of the UNM Utton Center, Sandia National Labs, and the Interstate Stream Commission. For more information, call Bob Wessely, at 867-3889, Mike Trujillo, at 247-1750, or check www.waterassembly.org.
