Ann Pollard featured artist at the library
Ann Pollard will exhibit 10 of her acrylic and mixed media florals, landscapes, and abstract paintings as the featured artist for the month of May at the Placitas Community Library. An opening reception honoring her will be held Saturday, May 7, from 1-4 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
Pollard grew up in Plainview, Texas, and attended the University of Texas in Austin, where she graduated with a bachelor of science degree in interior design. She spent 25 years living in the Washington, D.C. area, where she studied extensively at the Alexandria Art League in Alexandria, Virginia. She returned to the Southwest in 1990, where she has continued to actively pursue her love of painting, and now resides and works in Placitas.
Working in either an abstract or impressionist style in acrylic and mixed media, Pollard’s goal is to create pictorial harmony, while ever stressing the importance of intuitive expression. She works exclusively with sponge, pallet knife, and fingers, which allows the looseness and freedom for creativity to flow.
Bold color, pattern, and texture are paramount in Pollard’s work, creating lush layers of washes, glazes, and impastos, which unite to form the spirit of the whole. She likes the combination of the many effects throughout the depths of layers, which create a varied and interesting surface area.
Pollard’s work has been featured in solo and group shows in the Washington, D.C. area, throughout Texas, and New Mexico. She has received numerous awards, and her work appears in public and private collections throughout the U.S. and Mexico.
Pollard is a founding member of the Creative Spirits of Placitas and an active member of the Contemporary Artists of New Mexico.
Her work is represented by Houshang’s Gallery, Santa Fe, Forms Gallery, Delray Beach, Florida, and Ward Nasse Gallery, New York, New York.
