Wednesdays: Problems with Alcohol? Thinking Straight, Alcoholics Anonymous Step Study Meeting, 6:00 p.m., every Wednesday, now held at the Old Convent, 264 Camino del Pueblo, across from the Catholic Church in Bernalillo. November 1: Annual Placitas Star Party, presented by Albuquerque Astronomical Society and Las Placitas Association, 5:30 to 10 p.m., Homestead Village Shopping Center, Highway 165, Placitas, 3 miles east of I-25 via Exit 242. Night-sky observing through large telescopes. Weather permitting, see Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Andromeda Galaxy, nebula, craters of the Moon, Great Orion Nebula. November 2: Albuquerque Concert Band performs traditional and contemporary band music. The 80-piece band, conducted by John Sanks, features soloist John Dante, principal trumpeter for NMSO, performing Trumpet Concerto, by Johann Nepomuk Hummel. 3:00 p.m., Manzano High School Theatre near Lomas and Juan Tabo NE.p.m.No admission fee.

November 2: "Music in the Valley," presented by the Bosque Chamber Music Society, 3:00 p.m. Featuring Karen Ganz (piano), Jenna Calixto (flute), Loretta Krein (clarinet), Rebecca Armstrong (oboe), Kathryn Yadon (viola), and Katie Race (bassoon). November 2: Sandoval County Historical Society presentation and exhibit by Irene Blea on Maria Jesefa Jaramillo, wife of Kit Carson, from Taos. Open 2 to 4 p.m. Presentation at 3 p.m.,p.m.DeLavy House, just west of the Coronado Monument on US 550. 867-2755.

November 5: Big Brothers Big Sisters information meetings for new volunteer mentors at Placitas Elementary. 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Placitas Senior Center. 837-9223.

November 6: Sandoval County Commission, 3 p.m., Commission Chambers. Bernalillo.

November 6, 7, 13, and 14: Mediation training offered 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Presbyterian Church in Placitas. Offered by Thirteenth Judicial District Court county magistrate courts. All sessions required. November 7: Bernalillo Chamber of Commerce Banquet and Awards, with mariachis,. traditional Mexican and Spanish dances, the Legends Choir, Native American drummers and dancers, live music by DJ and Jazz Band Perdido.
