Beading class at the Placitas Community Center wins awards
—JANICE MORTENSEN, DIRECTOR, PLACITAS COMMUNITY CENTER
The Beading Group at the Placitas Community Center includes beginners, advanced and senior beaders. The group meets every Thursday from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. They enjoy working on their own personal creations as well as instructed techniques and styles. All beaders bring in their personal beads and supplies and work at their own pace. Ideas are shared amongst each other and all have a great time. Both men and women are involved in this activity. All are welcome to attend the class. Just walk in on Thursday afternoons and see if you would like to be a part of the group.
Six ladies making beaded jewelry at the Placitas Community and Senior Center entered the State Fair competition this year. All six came home with ribbons! Beautiful bracelets, necklaces and earrings were entered in the following categories: seed beads (beads smaller than 4mm), larger bead and components not made by the artist, precious metal clay and bead embroidery. The best showing was by Egda Delaney of Placitas who won Best of Show for all the entries by intermediate-ability beaders.
Much of this fabulous handmade jewelry will be for sale at the San Antonio Mission Catholic Church Fellowship Hall during the Placitas Holiday Sale on November 19 and 20. Come by and look!
