Abrazos Family Support Services receives $5K grant

This summer, Abrazos Family Support Services in Bernalillo received a $5,000 grant from the UPS Foundation, the charitable arm of UPS (NYSE:UPS). The grant will be used to expand Abrazos Family Support Services’ programs for children with autism.

Abrazos Family Support Services provides innovative programs that improve the communication, socialization and self-control skills of children with autism. By improving these skills, children with autism gain self confidence, develop independence and are empowered to lead healthy enriching lives in their community. The dramatic increase in autism rates among children has made it difficult for the agency to meet the demand for its autism programs. Thanks to the generous support of the UPS Foundation, Gretchen Weber of Abrazos Family Support Services says they will be better able to meet the current need and plan for future growth.

“We are so thankful to the UPS Foundation and all the employees of UPS for investing in Abrazos, investing in the children of New Mexico and investing in our future,” said Gretchen Weber, Executive Director of Abrazos Family Support Services.

The UPS Foundation was established in 1951 to help nonprofits that encourage diversity, community safety and environmental sustainability. In 2011, the UPS Foundation distributed more that $45 million dollars worldwide through grants that benefit organizations and programs such as Abrazos Family Support Services’ programs for children with autism.
