Seniors
needed to help seniors
—Cindy V. Anderson, Program Coordinator, Sandoval
Senior Connection
Our elders in Sandoval County are in need, as they face health problems,
depression, loneliness, and stressful transitions. Plus, many live
in rural areas which do not have easy access to mental health or
healthcare. Our program is attempting to mitigate these problems
through our peer counseling program, as well as our educational
presentations at senior centers.
We are looking for active, compassionate seniors age fifty-plus
who could attend training sessions (thirty-six hours total) and
then make a commitment to a client in Sandoval County. Our training
is free, and then the volunteer is provided mileage reimbursement
and supervision. Our training sessions are informative, fun, healing,
and educational. A schedule of topics and locations is available.
If you are a business or senior center that has an appropriate
place to post our flyer and training schedule, please feel free
to do so. If not, keep our program in mind for seniors in need,
or to refer volunteers who can help. Also, the public is welcome
to a portion of the training sessions, free of charge. We just ask
for an RSVP.
For more information, please call Debbie Trujillo, administrative
assistant, or Cindy Anderson, program manager, at 243-2551. Or e-mail
us at dtrujillo@outcomesnm.org
or canderson@outcomesnm.org.
