Mondays (first Monday of the month): Rio Rancho Art Association member meeting. Destiny Center, 4401 Northern Boulevard in Rio Rancho. Meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. with a short business meeting. Each meeting has a social hour following the speaker, including samples of art by members. Meetings are open to the public regardless of artistic experience or media.

Tuesdays: Haven House Domestic Violence Support Group for women whose lives have been touched by domestic violence. Topics include: Dynamics of Domestic Violence, Safety Plans, Developing Healthy Relationships, and information about available services. Second Tuesdays: Sandoval County Democratic Club meets at 7 p.m., Rio Rancho Inn, 528 near Sara Road, west side of the road. Meetings are open to the public and feature candidates for local, state, national offices. www.sandovaldemocrats.org.

Third Tuesdays: Eastern Sandoval County Arroyo Flood Control Authority (ESCAFCA) meets at 6 p.m. in the Town of Bernalillo Council Chambers. Board meeting agenda is available at the front desk of the Town Hall by the Friday preceding the meeting.

Fourth Tuesdays: Pathways: Wildlife Corridors of NM monthly meeting. 6:30 p.m. at the Placitas Community Center. Open to the public. www.pathwayswc.wordpress.com

Wednesdays: Mini Farmers’ Market at the Placitas Community Library. 1:30-5pm. Placitas grown, organic sugar snap and snow peas, green beans, squash, salad greens and more. Any gardeners with produce to share are encouraged to bring it to the Library then. All proceeds benefit Placitas Community Library.

First Wednesdays: The Sandoval County Chapter of the Holistic Moms Network meets at the Placitas Community Center to provide support and education on various natural living and conscious parenting topics. 6 p.m. Weekly playgroups, book exchanges, and an online forum for parenting support. The Holistic Moms Network is a nonprofit support and discussion network for moms with an interest in natural, holistic, and alternative parenting and living. Children are always welcome. Second Wednesdays: Casa Rosa Mobile Food Pantry distribution. 10 a.m.-12 p.m., fellowship hall of Las Placitas Presbyterian Church, 7 Paseo de San Antonio, Placitas.  A Roadrunner truck will bring 2,500 pounds of food, approximately 50 pounds of food per family. All eligible Placitas residents welcome.

Second Wednesdays: Democratic Women of Sandoval County meet at 7 p.m. in the Bernalillo Town Council Chambers. Refreshments at 6:30 p.m. when old and new members and guests can converse informally. Fridays: The Bernalillo Farmers/Growers Market will be open for business from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. through October 28, 2011. The Market Ground is located just south of Our Lady of Sorrows Church on Camino del Pueblo (Hwy 313) in Bernalillo. The location is about a block south of the intersection of 313 and U.S. 550.

First Friday: Coronado Kennel Club Meeting. All-breed obedience kennel club, 7 p.m. Call for meeting place. 867-4510.

Saturdays: Casa Rosa Food Bank is open 9 a.m.-11 a.m. in the pink house east of Las Placitas Presbyterian Church on Highway 165, six miles east of I-25. This community outreach program provides nonperishable food items as well as dairy, frozen meats, and fresh produce as available for Placitas residents in need. Donations and volunteers welcome.

Second and fourth Saturday: Placitas Flea Market, 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Homestead Village, 221 Highway 165, Placitas.

September 30: 23rd Old Church Fine Arts Show. 5-7 p.m., 42 juried artists will showcase a wide array of art forms. Reception from 5-7 p.m. Old San Ysidro Church, 966 Old Church Road, across from Casa San Ysidro in Corrales.

October 1-8: 23rd Old Church Fine Arts Show. 11a.m.-5 p.m. 42 juried artists will showcase a wide array of art forms. Old San Ysidro Church, 966 Old Church Road, across from Casa San Ysidro in Corrales.

October 4: Public hearing for the proposed reconstruction of the I-25/US 550 Interchange. 6-8 p.m. The purpose of the proposed project is to reduce congestion within the interchange and on US 550 within the project boundaries, to improve access to businesses, and to improve bicycle and pedestrian facilities. Bernalillo High School Gym, 250 Isidro Sanchez Road.

October 8: Las Placitas Association third program in its 2011 Water Series. 1 to 3:30 p.m. Placitas Community/Senior Center, 41 Camino de Las Huertas (just north of Placitas Post Office). Suggested donation $5.

October 11: 23rd Old Church Fine Arts Show. 11 a.m.-4 p.m. 42 juried artists will showcase a wide array of art forms. Old San Ysidro Church, 966 Old Church Road, across from Casa San Ysidro in Corrales.

October 15: Opening reception featuring paintings by Jade Leyva and photography by Jim Holbrook. Held at the Gathering of Artists adobe home next to Old San Isidro Church, 966 Old Church Road in Corrales. Show runs through November 2.

October 15: Rio Rancho Astronomical Society “A Night Under the Stars”. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. This fundraising event will include food, live music, and a silent auction. October 15: Placitas Library Fall Fiesta, 6:00 p.m. Placitas Library, silent auction and square dancing. Tickets $30, 977-7559 or 771-1171

October 15-November 2: A Day of the Dead Altar will be in the foyer at Gathering of Artists located in the historic adobe home next to Old San Isidro Church, 966 Old Church Road in Corrales. You may bring any photos and objects to place on the altar. Everyone is welcome.

October 16: Artists’ reception will precede the Placitas Artists Series concert for the exhibiting visual artists Lisa Chernoff, Ming Franz, Jo Schuman and Natalie Searl. 2 p.m. Las Placitas Presbyterian Church, located six miles east of I-25 on NM 165 (exit 242). 867-8080.

October 16: The Placitas Artists Series presents the Kaplan and Weiss Duo. 3 p.m. Composed of Mark Kaplan, violinist, and Yael Weiss, pianist. October 21: Abrazos Family Support Services Benefit Golf Tournament. 10-4 p.m. To benefit individuals with developmental disabilities and their families. Proceeds from the event will support Abrazos’ respite care services program. Register today and enjoy a great day of golf for a great cause. October 22: Fiesta of Cultures. 10 a.m.-3 p.m. The Friends of Coronado State Monument present a celebration of local Pueblo, Hispanic, and Anglo traditions, emphasizing demonstrations of Native crafts, folk art, and pre-industrial lifeways. Enjoy food, music, and dance, plus kids’ activities, and Kiva Mural tours among the ancient Pueblo ruins. Hike the trails while taking in the fall colors of the Rio Grande Bosque and the Sandia Mountains. Shop at the Sunfather gift shop. The Fiesta is free to the public. October 22: Placitas Star Party. 6:30-10:30 p.m. Las Placitas Association, the Placitas Community Library, and the Albuquerque Astronomical Society (TAAS) will co-host a free public astronomical viewing event at the Placitas Community Library.

October 22: Fiesta of Cultures presents Don Bullis. 2 p.m. Bullis, well-known for his knowledge of New Mexico history, will present a short talk about New Mexico’s struggle for statehood. Followed by a short Q and A period and a book signing. To be held in the mural room at the monument.

October 22: Fall Harvest Festival in Placitas. 1-5 p.m. Baked goods competitions, pumpkin carving, wine tasting, best garden produce competition, and much more. To be held at Anasazi Fields Winery, 26 Camino de los Pueblitos, in the Village of Placitas.

October 26: Placitas Recycling Association Quarterly Meeting, 7:00 p.m. La Puerta Realty Office

October 28: The JimGreer Duo featuring flutist Jerome Jim and pianist Amy Greer will present a recital for flute and piano at Las Placitas Presbyterian Church. 7:30p.m. This performance will include the music of Georges Hüe, Astor Piazzolla, Carl Maria von Weber, and P.A.
