Tuesdays: Pickleball at the Bernalillo Community Center. 6-8 p.m. Pickleball is a game played on a court with paddles and a whiffle ball. The court is smaller than a tennis court and allows people to play who no longer want to run and jump as they did in their younger years. Anyone can play even if they have never played tennis. First Tuesdays: Albuquerque Newcomers Club Welcoming Coffee. 10 a.m. Learn of the Club’s many varied activities. First Wednesdays: Free civil legal clinic offered. 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Held in the third-floor conference room of the Second District Courthouse, at the southwest corner of Lomas and Fourth, NW. Free legal advice on a number of civil legal issues. No family law services will be offered. Attendance is limited to the first 25 persons who qualify for low-income assistance. Interpreters and bilingual attorneys will be on hand. Those who come to the clinic should bring all their paperwork with them. They can expect about a thirty-minute, free legal consultation. Fridays: Sandoval County Stroke Support Group. 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Provides weekly support to survivors of stroke, their caregivers, adult family members, and health care providers. Saturdays: Casa Rosa Food Bank. Open 9-11 a.m. Held in the pink house east of Las Placitas Presbyterian Church at 640 Highway 165, six miles east of I-25. Community outreach program provides nonperishable food items as well as dairy, frozen meats, and fresh produce as available for Placitas residents in need. Donations, volunteers welcome.

September 26-October 7: “Sunflower U-pick” event in Corrales. 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m. daily. Held at the Gonzales Field Garden. The one-dollar a stem price goes towards supporting ARCA’s mission of insuring that individuals with disabilities can live, work, and enjoy rich recreational experiences in valued community roles.

September 30-October 9: Corrales Historical Society’s 28th Old Church Fine Arts Show. Opening reception on September 30, from 5-7 p.m.; daily from October 1-8, from 11 a.m.-5 p.m.; and on October 9, from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. 344-2110.

October 1-31: Galloping Grace Youth Ranch’s Pumpkin Patch. 9 a.m.-6:30 p.m. daily. Admission is three dollars per person and children two and under get in free. There is also free admission on promotional days. This family friendly event features a corn pit, harvest maze, scarecrow dress up, tractor races, roping area, pumpkin bowling, duck races, giant slides, pig races, the opportunity to feed goats and pet pigs, educational animal displays, and, of course, pumpkins.

October 15: Two hour Placitas native plant hike with Michael Crofoot. Meet at 8:45 a.m. at the western most gate of the BLM, off Cloud View Court in Sundance Mesa and drive as far as you can on the gravel road to meet Michael at the Open Space gate. Wear a good hat, rugged shoes, bring plenty of water, and be prepared for a relatively easy hike with a bunch of nature lovers. 771-8174.

October 20: Free groceries for seniors, courtesy of Silver Horizons. 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Registration is not required. Seniors are asked to simply show up and shop. This pantry includes fresh produce, meat, toiletries, dry and canned goods, and even pet food. The mission of Silver Horizons is to provide critical help to extremely low-income and in-crisis seniors in Bernalillo, Valencia, and Sandoval Counties, with the vision of helping older adults live safely, and in reasonable comfort, in their own homes for as long as possible.
