Smokey the Bear here to inform you
—Sal Gullo, District 4 Chief, Sandoval County Fire Department
Sandoval County Fire Department (SCFD) District 4 of Placitas, in cooperation with the East Mountain Interagency Fire Protection Association, have acquired a “Fire Danger” warning sign. With help from SCFD Administration and the New Mexico State Department of Transportation, the sign stands at the west entrance of the forest loop road at mile marker 2.7 on the south side of Highway 165.
The indication in the center of the sign is set to advise you of the current local fire danger. It will be changed by members of SCFD District 4 as the conditions in our forests and wild lands change. Please be aware of the current conditions, as they are posted for you and our community’s benefit and protection.
Currently our Fire Danger is at level 3 (high). This is due to the fuel load in the area and the combination of low humidity and potential for those enjoyable breezes we experience here in Placitas to support fire conditions.
In other news, CPR is again being offered to you by the Placitas Volunteer Fire Brigade Inc., at no charge for our community members. There will be two classes in September, both on the same day at our station at 463 Highway 165. The classes will be on September 19 at 9:00 a.m. and again at 12:00 noon. To register, please call our fire station 867-5080 and leave us a message that you would like to attend. Be sure to include your phone number and we will call you back to confirm your registration.
This program has been a success, as we have trained almost twenty people so far and look to continue the program for some time to come.
